Property Description

8370 ACRE RANCH - Val Verde County
Pumpville, Texas

West Texas....scenic, wild, rugged beauty. Dark skies, bright stars. Clean air, sunshine.

This scenic ranch is located a couple of miles North of Hwy 90 in the town of Pumpville. Pumpville is 65 miles west of Del Rio, 15 miles from Langtry and an hour from the recreational haven of Lake Amistad. The ghost town of Pumpville was a water station for the railroad and only a few buildings remain today. Over the tracks and up the road is the gate.

The headquarters of this ranch consists of a quaint remodeled camp house that is one bedroom, one bath with a stucco exterior and a large. inviting front porch. The house is serviced by Rio Grande Electric. Water is via a water well.. The owners have added a metal 3 bedroom, 3 bath bunkhouse with all the comforts and a metal deer cleaning facility. AT&T cell service can be caught at most spots on the ranch. Dish or Direct TV will provide TV service.

The ranch is gently rolling and sprawling. There are wide draws and elevations offering scenic vistas. The ranch was historically a sheep ranch but has not been grazed in years which has allowed for the vegetation to flourish. Some of the brush species that can be found on the ranch are: guayacan, agarito, tasajillo, cenizo, mesquite, prickly pear, yucca, Spanish dagger, greasewood, catclaw, ocotillo, leatherwood, blue sage and purple sage. The trees found in the draws are chinaberry, hackberry, black walnut, and red berry cedar. Several species of grasses and forbs are prevalent such as chino grama, buffalograss, tobosa, cane bluestem, green sprangletop, and sideoats.

Whitetail deer, Mule deer, Blue quail, Bobwhite quail, turkey and dove offer excellent hunting opportunities. There are no hogs and few coyote on the ranch yet you will see javelina.

The romance of this ranch is outstanding due to the scenic beauty and peacefulness. This ranch is much like it was in the beginning and offers a new owner the opportunity to put their stamp on it and make it their own. The upside is unlimited. This is TEXAS. This is WILD. You have to visit it, see it, breath it, live it to understand it.

And you have to give attention to the fact that this ranch is so close to beautiful Lake Amistad, where the Rio Grande, the Devils River and the Pecos meet. This lake was constructed jointly by Mexico and the United States and the name means "friendship". The lake provides year-round, water-based recreation opportunities, including boating, fishing, swimming, scuba diving and water-skiing, as well as other recreational opportunities for picnicking, camping, and hunting. The area is rich in archaeology and rock art, and contains a wide variety of plant and animal life.

Other nearby points of interest are Seminole Canyon State Park and Langtry, the community is notable as the place where Judge Roy Bean, the "Law West of the Pecos", had his saloon and practiced law.

Pumpville's purpose was to provide water for steam locomotives belonging to the Southern Pacific. The railroad personnel formed a nucleus of Pumpville's population.

The ranchers got tired of playing solitaire, so they'd sort of come into "town" and discuss the weather with the railroad employees. Before long, it wasn't unusual to see three or four people gathered near the railroad tracks. A town was born.

When the need for steam was killed by diesel locomotives, the railroad sent their people elsewhere and the ranchers went back to their ranches.
